KISS, JUDAS PRIEST Tribute Bands To Be Profiled In SHOWTIME Documentary
January 21, 2004A new documentary delving into the sometimes strange, but passionate, subculture of tribute bands for such rock legends as KISS, JUDAS PRIEST and QUEEN will air on Showtime under the "Sho Exposure" programming banner in April.
What sets "Tribute" apart is its unwillingness to condescend and "gawk" at its subjects. The film presents a hilarious, but also insightful and touching view of a genuinely ambitious group of people who go to extraordinary lengths to live out their rock dreams and re-create the performances of their superstar idols. The documentary explores the issues these bands face including band member turn-over, obsessive fans, dead-end day jobs and bandmates who take the impersonations too far. The goal is to offer viewers an emotionally potent nostalgia trip that sometimes crosses the line into the domain of rock parody "This Is Spinal Tap". The show also features the bands' obsessive fans and how far they'll go help the bands succeed.
"Tribute" is directed by Kristine Curry and Richard Fox, who also serve as producers. Steve Soderbergh serves as executive producer.
